It may be past March 15th, but we want you to join us, beginning on whatever day you choose and starting your own year. Take the challenge you'll find it's much easier than it sounds. Each day, it won't take more than a moment to pop your bow on and collect a quarter. We know you have busy lives (Nicole's in her first semester of college, Rachel is a Sophomore in college, so we do too) which is why we made it simple and easy. Here's how it works:
1. Simply wear a black bow somewhere on your person every day for a year. This could be a black bow ring, a ribbon tied onto a necklace, a pin, a black bow wrapped around your wrist, a black ribbon threaded through your jeans and tied, anything. See the blog for creative/inexpensive ideas. Super simple.
2. Then, every day collect at least a quarter for the cause. Set your own goal, if you want! A dollar a day? Go for it. Random change every day? Sure. The black bow you wear can start a conversation with anyone, so you can explain what you're doing and why. Then, just ask if they'd like to donate a quarter, or a dollar, or their spare change to the cause. By collecting small amounts, no one person feels burdened. And who doesn't have a quarter to spare? Still, the little stuff adds up. A quarter a day for a year is approx. $100, and it's so easy to raise more than that if you want to. Stick the change in a jar, and that's that.
3. The last and most important step of the Black Bow Project is to pray for the victims, for the mentors, for the traffickers, and for the policemen who all play a part in this story. Prayer, after all, isn't a last resort. Rather, it's the most important part of everything we do. In the end, it's God who enables us to do anything at all, and if any venture of man is successful, it's because the Lord saw fit to make it so! What's more, God loves these girls way more than we do, and can do so much for them that He doesn't even need our feeble efforts. But we give Him them anyway, because we give Him our all.
*If you're hesitant to fundraise, be comforted that Rachel, while fundraising too, leans more towards giving up her own money. Every day she is giving up about 75 cents worth of lunch/snacks at school to donate.
*If you have no desire to wear a black bow for a year, then next time you're in need of a gift/accessory consider shopping and at the same time restoring these girls! Make a purchase here and then share with us so we can add you to the tally!
